Feelings and Food

Oh my, I am feeling down. World events can weigh heavy. Sometimes I just want to numb. Food has been my go-to for that for my entire life. Such a deep routed habit to change. Not like anyone can avoid food or abstain.

What I’m learning to do is abstain from any eating instigated by feelings. Stopping before eating and seeing if this is for any reason other than fuel. Sure, the fuel can be enjoyable, but it needs to remain fuel.

Some days are simply a grind. To get through that, I remind myself of short term goals. Something within the next month. It’s been so many years since I was even near my long-term goal that it feels unreal and too distant to think of it. Intangible.

Maybe for now, getting comfortable in my size 12s is plenty. Thinking about more is overwhelming.

And it’s ok to not feel great everyday. The resistance of the body and mind to change is real.

How do you deal with down times?

Outside Influence

Why do I underestimate the power of Mondays and the influence of others? I just eeked by yesterday at a “just OK” caloric level. Why? What got to me?

First, I didn’t meditate. It was about unconscious habits too! It was great this morning and I learned my lesson.

Heavy rain all day — the kind that makes you crave comfort food. Sore muscles so I didn’t feel like the treadmill. Hubby wanting comfort food too. Ugh.

I’m going to try and look at yesterday as a win.

I didn’t say, “Screw it.” That’s a huge step forward for me.
Disappointed it's raining again.
How can we move forward every day, even if others aren’t on the same game plan? In my house, we’ve had a hard time being on the same wavelength at the same time. Lately it’s been really good. I felt disappointed yesterday.

At some point, we all have to say, “It’s time for me.”

That doesn’t mean we don’t take care of our families. But if that means I eat separately or go into the other room for a while so temptation isn’t in my face — no apologies and, even more importantly, no guilt.

Having some Enlightened ice cream on hand helped. (Way better than Halo, if you ask me.) Having a glass that's full with just 4 ounces of wine helped. Sometimes it's the little things...you know?

How do you handle the strong temptation to just say, "Oh, forget it"?
