Feelings and Food

Oh my, I am feeling down. World events can weigh heavy. Sometimes I just want to numb. Food has been my go-to for that for my entire life. Such a deep routed habit to change. Not like anyone can avoid food or abstain.

What I’m learning to do is abstain from any eating instigated by feelings. Stopping before eating and seeing if this is for any reason other than fuel. Sure, the fuel can be enjoyable, but it needs to remain fuel.

Some days are simply a grind. To get through that, I remind myself of short term goals. Something within the next month. It’s been so many years since I was even near my long-term goal that it feels unreal and too distant to think of it. Intangible.

Maybe for now, getting comfortable in my size 12s is plenty. Thinking about more is overwhelming.

And it’s ok to not feel great everyday. The resistance of the body and mind to change is real.

How do you deal with down times?

  1. I have started sewing little things (hearts for Valentines Day) to keep hands busy
Also have been having water next to me at ALL times and try to fill my “hunger” with fluids.
I also have been eating a bowl of cereal at night to replace my nightly desserts that have added over 40 lbs to my 5’4 frame
    We can do this

  2. Yes! I now have some kind of water, propel water, sparkling ice next to me all the time. It really makes a difference. For me, cereal is a trigger food from my childhood! Remember to eat enough protein and healthy fats. Doesn't change our emotions, but helps with the desperate-feeling hunger. I'm so happy you commented and it feels good to know we're in this together!
